I’ve been thinking a lot about architecture lately! It’s very exciting.
We were learning about rotated solids in Calculus - where you take a function, and rotate it around an axis? Yeah, that. Cool stuff. Well, if you can figure out what the volume of a solid is through that method, and the density of your material, you can calculate the mass of the structure you are trying to build! And from there, you can figure out the weight force of the object, and then go from there in planning the structural integrity of a building.
And when you’re trying to build a structure that needs good acoustics, like a concert hall or something, you can utilize an elliptical structure, place the stage at one focus and the audience at another! I told my brother this and he started talking about hyperboloids. That went completely over my head…
I am just totally nerding out about this. I feel like I know next to nothing about anything, but I can do this!
